WILD [a Film Review]

Wild is a biography-drama based on Cheryl Strayed’s solo journey through the Pacific Crest Trail, with famous actress Reese Witherspoon playing Cheryl herself.

The movie gives us a look into the various events in Cheryl’s life that led to her decision to attempt the Trail in a journey of self-realisation and recovery. By intercutting between the story arcs of her love for her divorced husband and love for her mother, the movie shows us how much she needed this self-repairing journey to find herself again.

Reese Witherspoon puts up an Oscar-worthy performance as a struggling woman facing the world, surrounded by people in her life, yet feeling empty and alone, a contrast to her usual roles in her romantic-comedies.

Wild offers movie-goers with a spectacular view of the American wilderness and a dramatic story of healing and recovery. Definitely worth catching if you have time on your hands.
